The Avengers - A Dirty Robots review

The Avengers review

Never before has a superhero movie has gotten so much hype for a film release since The Dark Knight and been so terrific at the same time. And of course the marvel film series had building up to The Avengers for quite some time now and now the biggest superhero is upon us and the moment has finally come at last has it truly lived up to the hype or this is another reason why superhero team movies cannot be possible? Let’s find out.

Loki, Thor’s brother has invaded earth and threatens to take over earth with an army thanks to an unknown power source known only as the Tesseract S.H.I.E.L.D then decide to call upon the Avengers to help them against the god of mischief and stop his plans for good. You’d think a superhero team up movie is out of the question and therefore Marvel wouldn’t pull off this kind of movie but with Joss Whedon at hand with his directing skills provides us with a very amazing and at times awe inspiring movie. Outside of the X-men movies this is by far the only Superhero team up movie that actually works. Mainly the reason why these kind of movies never work before is because of the fact that there’s an over abundance of characters but here this is a movie that proves filmmakers everywhere that this is a superhero team up movie if done right of course.

There’s not a single moment in The Avengers when you will feel bored, it has virtually everything you could expect in an action blockbuster and the action sequences will keep you on your toes and keep you begging for more.

The best thing about this movie is how Joss Weldon handles the characters on how they interact with each other and they not just going to deal with Loki straightaway and of course all four of the Avengers don’t get along with each other at first they argue and they even fight each other at some point and that to me is very impressive. They give each member of the Avengers even screen time and they don’t feel overbearing to watch despite the high amount of characters you have this in film.

The only weak link I can actually find with this movie is the secondary villains will have to be the alien army that Loki summons to cause havoc in New York City I felt they were really downplayed in this movie and they were pretty much generic enemies for the Avengers to fight. Loki himself was quite an intimidating villain, manipulating very cool and collected along with being calculating something that we have not seen for a long time. The way how he manages to wriggle into the heroes minds is really quite chilling. Maybe if they didn’t make the army that Loki has just mindless drones than maybe the villains won’t be such a problem but other that it’s all good.

There’s been quite some controversies in terms of Bruce Banner not been played by Ed Norton who played The Incredible Hulk last and has been replaced by Mark Ruffalo for The Avengers. To me Mark Ruffalo offers his own take on the scientist with a bad temper and is just as good if not even better than Ed Norton’s portrayal. Though Hulk doesn’t appear that much in the movie when he does show up it’s really amazing to see.

Another strength that The Avengers have is that they balance the serious dark tone of it with some well thought out comedy scenes. With Iron Man and The Hulk being the bulk of the humour, many of the gags had me in stitches throughout this movie and I’m glad that it wasn’t all action and it was all evened out.

The Avengers is by far one of the best superhero movies in existence I really hope to see more in terms of these type of movies. With Joss Whedon’s great directing skills and amazing attention detail this is a most among people who are into comic books and also casual audiences and I personally think that the Dark Knight trilogy has met it’s match in terms of this film and by far was my favourite movie of 2012.
